New Graduates / First Time Registrants

SASW has been given responsibility for professional self-regulation through  The Social Workers Act. With this comes the responsibility for protection of the public and to ensure strict requirements for registration. Accordingly, SASW has a set of specific requirements for applicants to become registered. The requirements to be designated as a  registered social worker and receive the privilege of being able to use the title  “social worker” are set by  The Social Workers Act, the by-laws of the Association, and policies approved by SASW Council. Please follow the steps below to become a Registered Social Worker in Saskatchewan.

  • Complete the online application and payment by clicking the “Application Form” link below;
  • Make your payment in full by credit card for the appropriate registration category.

In addition, the following documents/forms must be provided in order to complete the registration process. These documents/forms are to be submitted  together in one package:

  • An original current (not more than 6 months from date of issue) criminal record check.  This may be obtained from your local police/RCMP detachment. Or if you want/need to complete an online Criminal Record Check please contact the office at info@sasw.ca to request.
  • A character reference provided on the SASW Character Reference Form.  The form is downloadable within the online application form or can be accessed at Character Reference Form ; When submitting this document, it must be signed and dated. We will not accept typed signatures.
  • If you have been a registered member of any profession (including but not limited to social work), please complete the Verification of Registration/Licensure in Any Professional Jurisdiction Form. This form is downloadable within the online application form or can be accessed at Verification of Registration Form .

The above documents may be submitted by one of the following ways:

  • All documents can be submitted in one E Mail to:

    registration@sasw.ca and MUST include the following declaration in your E Mail:

    "By way of this e-mail, I certify that I have the true original copies of the attached documents sent to SASW in support of my application and will provide them to the Registrar if requested to do so”.

    If you choose to E Mail your documents you must ensure that you keep the originals in your possession.
  • Original documents (not photocopies) can be mailed in one package to the SASW office at 2110 Lorne Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 2M5

In Addition:

SASW policy requires that an original  transcript of marks, which indicates the date upon which the social work certificate/degree was conferred, be ordered from the academic institution where the certificate/degree was awarded ( see exception below). This transcript must be forwarded directly from the academic institution to the SASW Office by regular mail or email to registration@sasw.ca.   If your University uses a network for the secure and trusted exchange of digital academic documents such as MyCreds you can access your account with the network to share the document to our e-mail noted above.  We are then able to complete a verification or authenticity with the specific network. If the name on your application is different from the name which will appear on the transcript, you will need to complete a Name Change form .

Exceptions:

  1. If you have had your credentials evaluated by the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW), you do not need to order a transcript from the academic institution where your degree was awarded.

It is the responsibility of the Registrar to determine the good character of any applicant admitted for registration. The material and information required of applicants is collected so that the Registrar can form a conclusion about the applicant’s character and capacity to practice social work with personal and professional integrity, honesty and in accordance with the law, including but not limited to  The Social Workers Act and the bylaws of the Association.

Should you have questions regarding the application process, please contact the SASW Office at info@sasw.ca or 306.545-1922.
